All you need to know about knitting is how to cast on and how to knit. If you don&#8217;t know yet then take a look at <a title=\"Learn to knit. Scandinavian Knit on Instagram\" href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/p\/rxb14wBQ0Z\/?modal=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram where I have some simple knitting videos.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">You need:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">A circular knitting needle<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Yarn<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">2 place marker (plastic rings to mark where to decrease) and a needle.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">I used some nice sustainable yarn, Icelandic Lett Lopi yarn, which was leftovers from the sweaters I made for Christmas &#8211; using the stash is allways sustainable! I added some grey wool and a silke yarn for the lace edging. This shawl is knitted from the top down, so you can make it as small or as big as you want it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">I used:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">200 gr Lett Lopi in dark brown and off-white. (50 g(1.7 oz) approx.100 m\u00a0 (109\u00a0 yd). This yarn\u00a0made the shawl light like a feather.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Approx 100 gram of the other yarns.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Cicular knitting needle size 7 mm<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Shawl Knitting Pattern for beginners<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Cast on 3 stitches, put a place marker on the needle, cast on 20 stitches,\u00a0put a place marker on the needle, cast on 3 stitches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">1.row. Knit and just move the place marker from one side of the needle to the other, when you get to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">2.row. Purl. (or knit if you prefer that &#8211; I don&#8217;t have a purl video yet)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">3. row. Knit 1, increase 1, knit 2, increase 1, move the place marker, knit 20, move the place marker, increase 1, knit 2, increase 1, knit one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\"><strong><em>How to increase? <a title=\"Knitting tutorials\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scandinavianknit.com\/knitting-tutorials\/\">I have a small video\u00a0right here<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">\u00a04. row. Purl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">5. row: Knit 1, increase 1, knit to the placemarker, increase 1 <em>before<\/em> the place marker, knit to the next place marker, increase 1 <em>after<\/em> the place marker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Continue knitting until the shawl is big enough (Warming! Can a shawl ever get big enough?!) for you to start start the lace edge.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Lace knitted edge<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scandinavianknit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_7733.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-152 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scandinavianknit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_7733-e1423319160847-1024x550.jpg\" alt=\"How to knit a lace edge. Laces aren&#8217;t that difficult.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">In this pattern I wanted it to be like\u00a0oxygen bubbling to the surface and not that strict. So here we go:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">1 purl row: 1 purl, *1 yarn over, 2 purl together, 1 purl* end with a purl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">On the following knit row you just make sure you have 20 stitches in the between the place makers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">2. purl row: 1 Purl, shift the pattern a bit so you don&#8217;t get the holes in the lace right above each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">When the edge is big enough you one knit row and then a purl row where you knit:\u00a01 purl, *1 yarn over, 2 purl together* end with a purl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Then knit one row and a purl row. Cast off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Get a needle, bend the last lace row up and stitch\u00a0it carefully. Fasten the yarn ends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Wash the shawl in lukewarm water and let it dry flat on a towl. When it dry, steam it, be careful so you don&#8217;t iron it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Voil\u00e0: a beuatiful shawl to keep you warm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Oh did I leave something out? Yes, I desided to make two row of lace pattern to soften the change of colors. The a purl row I knitted like this: 1 purl, *1 yo, 2 purl together* and end with 1 purl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The picot edge is a simple picot crochet edge:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">US: Start by single\u00a0crochet (sc) all around the shawl. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Next round: \u00a0start with 1 sc\u00a0,\u00a0*3 chain stitch (cs), 1 sc\u00a0in 1.st chain stitch, skip 1 st, 1 sc \u00a0in next stitch*, repeat *-* all around the shawl. End\u00a0with a slip stitch.
